Chemiphar (U) Ltd. is a private and independent international analytical laboratory operating in the East African Region and the Horn of Africa, with a base station in Kampala. It has a young dynamic staff ensuring high quality client oriented laboratory services. It is part of the Chemiphar Group of Laboratories with its head office in Bruges, Belgium.
Chemiphar (U) Ltd offers a large number of microbiological, chemical and physico-chemical analyses in the different sectors of food, water, beverages, environmental monitoring, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, forensic, industrial and food toxicology, and agroseeds analysis and certification.
Next to analyses in the laboratory, Chemiphar is specialised in external sampling for microbiological and chemical analyses in the food and beverage industries, for monitoring of hygiene in establishments, for analysis of process, surface or waste waters and for agroseeds industries.
In a more comprehensive approach, Chemiphar offers consultancy services to food industries to improve the quality of its products or production processes by assisting in the set-up, monitoring and implementation of HACCP or hygiene control programmes, Good Hygiene Practices (GHP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and traceability.

The activities of the company include:
Analyses in its laboratory:
- Quality of agricultural seeds; moisture, purity, Other Seed Determination (OSD) and germination. Issuance of Blue and Orange ISTA Certificates
- Heavy metals in water, foods & vegetables
- Pesticides in water, foods & vegetables etc
- Organochlorine & organophosphorus pesticides, chlorfenvinphos and PAHs
- Microbiology in food and water
- Waste water
- Physic-chemical water analysis
- Quality of grains, maize meal and corn soy blend (unimix)
- Proximate analysis in food and feed
- Honey analysis
- Vanilla and herbs e.g Cinchona, Artemisia
Field activities among others include:
- Sampling dry cargo as cereals, grains, legumes, pulses, sugar, salt, by products of cereal and pulses, vegetable and animal fats and oils
- Surveillance at loading and offloading (ascertaining of weight, tallying....) of the above dry items/cargo
- Verification of the labelling and packaging of food and agricultural commodities
The laboratory aims at quality of its services by:
- Use of only internationally accepted test methods, modern equipment and quality reagents.
- Adoption and implementation of a management system that complies with the international standards.
- Ensuring a dynamic and highly qualified laboratory staff.
Chemiphar is internationally accredited in accordance with the international standards ISO/IEC 17025:2005 (“General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories”) as well as ISO/IEC 17020:2004 (“General criteria for the operation of various types of bodies performing inspection”) by the Belgian Accreditation bureau BELAC, and ISTA (International Seed Testing Accreditation). This accreditations recognise the use of an elaborate Management system and the presence of a high level of technical expertise acceptable worldwide.
